Whats Next?

Mr Barber is Director at Barbers Cheese and has committed to the technology fully. He has given the go ahead for 5 Milk Source Heat Pump systems on his prestigious dairy farms. Out of this 2 have been commissioned and have been operating since March 2023 and March 2024.

The next one to go in out of the 5 is the 60 point Rotary Parlor, the biggest dairy farm owned by Barbers Cheese. It produces a staggering 4000 Liters of Milk an Hour.

What Did We Replace At Barbers?

We replaced an ice bank and a heat recovery system. The heat recovery system allowed Barbers to recover 45-50 degree heat from the milk.

The savings seen were on top of Heat Recovery?

DO I NEED TO MAKE LOADS OF CHANGES TO MY SETUP?

NO

IS IT COMPATIBLE WITH MY SETUP?

YES ITS COMPATIBLE WITH ALL SETUPS INCLUDING ROBOTS, ROTARY, HERRINGBONE AND ALL OTHER SETUPS WHERE MILK OR MILK PRODUCTS ARE BEING COOLED AND THERE IS A NEED FOR HEATING

how it works

SYSTEM PROCESS IS SIMPLE, IT HAS A COLD TANK WHICH CAN BE PRESUMED TO BE AN ICE BANK: BUT WE DON'T MAKE ANY ICE IN IT AND THERE IS A HOT TANK WHICH STORES HOT WATER.

Step 1: Capture Heat from the Milk
As milk flows through a plate cooler (just like the one you already use), heat is efficiently captured without any disruption to your current setup.

Step 2: Return the Heat to the System
A standard water pump—similar to the one used in ice banks—circulates the heat back into the system for processing.

Step 3: Proprietary Heat Extraction
Our advanced heat pump technology extracts the captured heat using specialized processes, maximizing efficiency.

Step 4: Transfer Heat to Water
The extracted heat is then transferred to water, producing high-temperature hot water ready for use.

The Result?
By the end of each milking, you’ll have 20-25% of your milk volume in boiling hot water—perfect for cleaning and operations—all while chilling your milk to the ideal 4°C.

One system, two critical functions—making your dairy run smarter and more sustainably.

Mr Dark, Helston, Corwall (Installed in October 2023)

Approx. 100 kw a day SAVINGS, FOR 3000 litre PRODUCTION ON AVERAGE. Our bactoscans have remained low too

A room with industrial water heaters and tanks, pipes, gauges, and equipment on the floor and against the wall. Milk Source Heat Pump installation making a difference.

'The system has consistently resulted in lower bactoscans now in the top band of our milk contract, producing a better quantity product for our milk buyer. This has financially helped the business. Another benefit I value is we finish Milking as the milk tanker arrives and I have full confidence the milk will be cold''

A man stands in front of plumbing and electrical equipment in an industrial or mechanical setting, wearing a red shirt, blue pants, and a cap. Milk Source Heat Pump dairy farmer.

Like the Sherlock Holmes tale of the dog that didn't bark, it's not the engineering or the sheer number of pipes that I can see but what I don't see that is so amazing. Standing by it, in the middle of my dairy, you realise there's no heat coming from it. All the heat from instantly cooling my milk to a fraction over 4⁰c, even the energy it uses is all converted to hot water. I have all the hot water I need, to wash the dairy, feed the calves ( in the middle of my block calving) and more. Looking forward to sending this surplus to the farm house for heating. I'm also very happy to have electric bills in 3 figures rather than 4, as recordings show usage dropping from 202 kwh a day to 100kwh

It cools the milk to below 4 degrees. The milk compressors hardly run now. We are amazed with the effective milk cooling.

MR AND MRS JUKES, GABLES FARM, NEWARK

Our Arkaya system was installed in October 2023. It has now been running for a few months and our experience with it has been extremely positive. It has replaced our ice bank and Lo-heat dairy heater completely and is now meeting our milk cooling and water heating needs entirely. We have also seen considerable reduction in our electricity bills and are on track to save thousands this year on our bills.
